Ride Snowboards

For years and years the graphic muscle behind Ride Snowboards was led by Mike “Styk” Styksal and Mark “Fank” Fankhauser. Styk grabbed a young Fank out of art school the two of them went onto create season after season of memorable board graphic lines. Everything from board graphics to boot designs to belt buckles to paint drip magic to catalogs to web sites. All of it. A two-man graphic powerhouse.

I met Styk through Chief and Mavis during my time at Snowboarder magazine and a fast friendship started up. Nebraska through and through, I was a fan of his work before I even knew the big lug.

Styk and Fank called upon my services in the summer of 2004 and trusted me with a couple board lines, allowing me to do some great work, and get a foothold with some sturdy freelance work. I was fresh out “on my own.” Thank you for believing in me, fellas.

Nowadays, Fank mans the graphic helm at Ride and Styk watches over The Department of Energy, a couple miles across water and town in Seattle. Not to be messed with. Seriously. “Salt of the Earth,” both of them.

Special thanks to Scott Mavis for patience and believing in me, over the years, too.
