TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT, MEMPHIS: Our fourth stop on the DDC 2012 Fall Tour! Right here in Memphis, at the Brooks Museum!

Last week was Salt Lake City, and we did our goddamned best to slay those Wasatch rangers. I think we did! We had good reviews and met so many spirited Salt Lake-sters. Thank you for coming last week!

So now we’re in The South, and we pledge to give you our very best tonight. Be there. Viciously stocked merch table. Big words. Small words. Cuss words. State-of-the-art multimedia presentation. Smart people in the crowd. Vectors. Orange shit. Little ideas. Laffs. Chuckles. Chortles. Snorts. Truth. Tall tales. Bonafide examples. Loud music. Spirited sentiment. Threats. Tears. All for you, Memphis!

WE MADE A POSTER: We’re calling this little devil “Teeming Tennesssee” and it’s got everything we’ve ever loved about the Volunteer state. We packed it full, and we hope you love it. Everything we’ve ever loved about Memphis, and Tennessee as a whole. Printed by the lifesavers at South Carolina’s The Half and Half. Wow. Thanks, you guys. Above and beyond, always. Bill us!

Good for that Mississippi mud shack, South Memphis apartment, downtown flophouse, border hopping Arkansas retreat, Brooks Museum Public Relations Manager office, supermax prison cell, BBQ Smoke Pit restaurant break room, University of Memphis dorm room, Memphis Zoo “monkey zone” or Beale Street saloon.

WE MADE A “TOUR-ONLY” TORSO COVER, TOO: We’ll never be in a band. I mean, maybe? But for now, we don’t have the time, and certainly don’t have the chops, so we’re doing what we can to live this dream. We’ve got sixteen gigs for this tour, so we made a “tour-only” torso cover, complete with little ol’ me ripping the ghost of Gary in half, cheeseburgers and Field Notes and boxer shorts whipping around us, with the most-evil type possible. Tour dates on the back! Art by AyeJay! See below! As evil as we could make the goddamned things.

will these new posters (TN, UT) be available for sale/mooching in Chicago next month?

LOVING IT!

Also, are you doing a Buffalo poster? Would absolutely plotz if you did a logo homage to my hometown… the Marine Midland Bank logo is one of the best examples of 1960s “thick lines”

DDC vs MEMPHIS -Memphis Wins! Surely we’ve walked away form this visit with more than Aaron. An incredibly intriguing lecture based on an even more impressive portfolio of work; solid nuggets of folksy down-to-earth design and personal wisdom wrapped in a candy shell. Sprinkle on the occasional F’bomb to colorfully punctuate and you have the recipe for an entertaining talk that benefits the students, the freelancers, the sell-outs and the hacks, in all of us, that needed a charge to the creative battery.

Just wanted to say that you were AMAZING in Nashville. We just loved it. Really. Sorry to jump the gun and ask you about coming out to Knoxville so soon after meeting you. I should have told you that your presentation was incredible first. That all of us from Knoxville turned to each other right after you spoke and said we had to have you visit our chapter. That what you said changed us a bit (for the better) and one of board loved what you had to say so much I think he’d spring for your ticket himself.

Seriously, whatever it takes, we should do this. I think what you have to say would really resonant with our community. We have Design Week coming in May 2013, if that works; if not, let us know what’s best for you. We’ll take great care of you, ask Debbie Millman:) She said she had the best experience in Knoxville of any of the chapters, and she’s visited them all.
