DDC-403 “DDC Brand 5-in-1 Skateboard T-Tool - Otis B Orange”
Product Description:
I grew up skateboarding. Got my first board at twelve, a sketchy orange “Sidewalk Surfer” Makaha. Central Lake, 1985. I remember busting my ass on the thing out in front of the house. But I learned how to tic tac around. Next up was a no-name Sears something-or-other that I quickly broke. Then it was a Variflex. Then a Brand-X Executioner. Then a Santa Cruz Jeff Grosso. And I had made my choice by this time. My friends and I went “all in” as skaters. The haircuts, clothing, language and collective sessioning around town was more than a hobby. It opened so many doors. To bands, activism, questioning authority and having each other’s fuckin’ backs when the jocks were laying into us. But most important? Ii taught us how to think for ourselves. How to make our own way. Thankful for that.
I’m a bit afraid of skateboarding now. I don’t want to be that 52-year-old beast who “goes down hard” and doesn’t get back up, or, finds himself on the business end of a broken bone or newly-acquired limp. But I do have my memories. Of wall rides. Of no-complies. Of slappies. Of ollie-to-backside-tail-slides. Of mini ramps. Of a bad slam in Las Vegas in 1997 and there’s days my left elbow still hurts. Good shit.
It’s still fun to set up a board. And why not have my own tool? Possessed to skate!
