The Hold Steady

When I lived in Minneapolis back in the late ‘90s, I knew of Lifter Puller. Had the Half Dead and Dynamite CD but never got to see them live. My haunts were a little more pedestrian: 7th Street Entry, 400 Bar, Lee’s Liquor Lounge, as well as a couple scary-ass shows at the Terminal Bar.

When The Hold Steady hit in the 2004 I got right in with that first Almost Killed Me record!

We gotta start it off with a positive jam
We gotta start it with a positive jam, man
Gotta start it with a positive jam

And they did! I’ve seen them a handful of times in the last twenty years and a couple years back Trevor Solomon marched my girth backstage and I had Craig Finn sign my Fiestas + Fiascoes and Separation Sunday records. We spoke of mutual buds in the Twin Cities and I got to thank them for all the positive jams. Nice fella.

Thank you to David Gottlieb and Kevin O’Halloran for breaking this poster off for the DDC!
