TOO MUCH GOING ON TODAY: Short post.

YOU SHOULD BE VISITING THIS ONE OFTEN: The trademarks and symbols of Stefan Kanchev. Much respect.

This is the best part of his site: Seeing those logos out in the world. Incredible.

LAST NIGHT’S ” LATE SHIFT VIEWING” WAS THIS: Towncraft. I remember when it came out, but missed the boat on it. Ingenuity, persistance and spirit. Very, very recommended.

Made me think about the bands we’d go see in our little Traverse City scene like Bucket, Dicked, Hobart, Short Bus, Zulu Groove and of course when they came through town: Powertool, Smatch, Ninja High School, Goober and the Peas and those Laughing Hyenas. Seeing shows at Papa J’s in the back room, or across the street sitting on the trash dumpsters—watching through the windows of Union Street—too young to get in. Good stuff.

KING OF THE BREEDS: Chuck Pearce found this one and made our day some time back, and we’ve been sitting on it for some time, just waiting to strike with it: King of the bumpers!

ON THE PLAYER:

01. The Album Leaf - Into The Blue Again
02. Dave Van Ronk - Inside Dave Van Ronk
03. June of 44 - Engine Takes To Water
04. Townes Van Zandt - High, Low and in Between
05. Paul Westerberg - Eventually

I believe my first graphics job was a t-shirt design for Dicked! (RIP, Rick)

And in trying to seem cool to my wife (who has a huge punk rock past), once told her,”Yeah, I saw the Laughing Hyenas at a small bar in Traverse City…did you ever listen to them?” Her reply, “Yup, they played at my sixteenth birthday party.”
