Got into the shop pretty early and got on a vast horizons, empty-spaced Scenic kick that took me through the morning. Then some Lanterna. The poster above is from, ulp, 15 years ago, and still looks as fresh as it did to me then. By Orlando’s Thomas Scott!

WE INTERVIEW SOME OF THE MIDWEST’S BEST: This shit’s official. The new issue of Juxtapoz has an interview with Burlesque in there! Go find it, buy all the copies, and give them to yer friends. Can’t wait to get my hands on a copy. Hell yes, Burlesque!

NOT A COMMON PIECE: “Michigan Boat Propellers Thermometer.” I’ll just leave it at that. Current temperature in Portland, as these words went to print: 47Ëš. Back off, summer. (This link was passed on by a representative of the Reference Library.)

WAY INTERESTED IN THIS ONE: Typeface, the film. Here’s what their site says, “Typeface focuses on a rural Midwestern museum and print shop where international artists meet retired craftsmen and together navigate the convergence of modern design and traditional technique.” We’re down with that.

THE PORTUGESE LANGUAGE ALWAYS SOUNDED COOLER THAN SPANISH: Always With Honor does a little piece for Monocle and they are calling it, “Architecture of Brasilia.”

A MONTH AGO IN PITTSBURGH, A BAND FROM CHICAGO PLAYED: And Mikey Burton made the poster for the Wilco show we’re talking about. So good. Could look at stuff like this all day. Often do. Said this many times.

YOU SHOULDA SEEN DALE YESTERDAY: He took a mountain of DDC Merch packages to the post office. So any customers who might be wondering: “Shit’s on the way, people! Fast, too.” You, reading these words, can partake in this kind of exchange with a couple simple, spirited clicks right here in our state-of-the-art DDC Merch store. You need this stuff. Make it happen. Do we let you down? Daily, there’s “cool shit” to see on this site, right? Hard to argue that one. Be a part of it.

i had that Scenic/Lanterna poster! used to hang in our space in the oak street building, just a stone’s throw from the DDC HQ. i think i lost it somewhere in the move to Seattle. that was a great show. Clinton Street Theater, i think it was. i met Bruce Licher at Dots and gave him a demo tape i had done with a letterpress cover. i have a small stash of Independent Project Press letterpress ephemera around here somewhere. great guy. he’s done some incredible letterpress stuff.
