POSSIBLE CAREER-WRECKER, SO BE CAREFUL: This is one of those links I keep on going back to over and over again. Incredible stuff: Old General Dynamics ads.

On one hand, the design is so incredible, and the other hand, I get to thinkin’ about what’s behind General Dynamics, and making bombs, and that sinister military industrial complex, and innocent civilians dying and whatever other dark secrets are behind all those gorgeous graphics. One part beautiful, another part “the kind of thing that should just be buried deep in the ground, encased in lead and concrete.” Don’t really know what I’m talking about, but you know, just lettin’ it fly as the workday comes to a welcomed end.

AFTERNOON DELIGHT: Dale was just in the shop with his lady Betty, his friend Lynn from Brooklyn (by way of Orlando), and her boyfriend, Mick Collins from the Dirtbombs! Yeah, those Dirtbombs. Big fan, I am.

Detroit rock city! Every time I see some goddamn picture of Kid Rock telling you how fly he is, or Ted Nugent shooting a flaming arrow at some wounded animal, or Eminem crying about his confused thoughts or whatever, I get fuckin’ sick to my stomach. You know what pill I take to make me feel better? The Dirtbombs. My kind of Detroit rock. There you go. Great to meet you, Mick and Lynn!

Here’s an awesome one of Mick and the band.

MORE BO, PLEASE: Mr. Bogusky made the kind of logos, that, hell, 30 years later, you look at and just want to quit this stuff. This stuff just can’t be beat. That’s all there is to it. Brilliant. Be careful with this stuff. (Thanks for wrecking my life, Streger.)

NOTHING LIKE A GOOD DAY OF HARD WORK: A kick the ass for all of us, from the 30s. This reminder was sent in by Breck Chumley, a fine American patriot in his own right. Thanks, man.

JUST BECAUSE VANS MAKE ME HAPPY: A van called, “Vangina” from back in the day. (Sent in by Kris from BlackCap. Good find, man. Keep the rubber on the road!)

ON THE PLAYER:

01. The Dirtbombs - Dangerous Magical Noise
02. The Dirtbombs - Ultraglide In Black
03. The Dirtbombs - We Have You Surrounded

I love all that General Dynamics stuff too. The designer behind it all is Erik Nitsche, who was Swiss-born and more than likely just a hard working designer who had a client that didn’t deserve him. He also did a series of books called The New Illustrated Library of Science and Invention which are also really cool and can be found at garage sales for a buck or 2 if you’re lucky.

The war machine hasn’t looked this good in a while.

I think Star Trek used General Dynamics as a inspiration for some of the designs seen in their movies. I can’t remember where I saw that.
