ABOUT THE SHOW: “Dear Minneapolis: In 1998, after five wild winters cutting my teeth out west, I made my way back to the Midwest to see if I could hack in the big leagues of Art School at MCAD. Things like those Replacements and the ever-inspiring Charles Spencer Anderson brought me to you. Sure, I got myself a hi-falutin’ graphic degree, but more importantly, I fell hard for yer design community and the mountain of great work always coming out of it. And I’ll be forever hooked on you. What you are looking at in this show is basically, “Pretty much everything since I split town.” So that’s what we’re calling it. Thanks, Minneapolis. You were the kick in the ass I needed.” - Aaron Draplin

WHAT THE CO GALLERY HAD TO SAY: Aaron has been an influence on just about anybody calling themselves a graphic designer in the 21st century. If not through his clean and exceptionally well-conceived logos and graphics, then certainly through his outspoken stance on preservation of traditions, Americana, and blue collar work ethic. We will be covering the walls top to bottom with logos, posters, album covers, and just about every other creative image created by the renowned graphic designer during the last few years since his post-MCAD move from Minneapolis out West to his current homebase of Portland, Oregon. In Aaron’s own words, Thanks MPLS will also feature the following: “Meet the parents. Must-have DDC merch at cut rate prices. Door prizes. Vectors. Tall tales. Independence. Orange things. Ugly people. Refreshments. Lively conversation. Things to look at. Fun.”

TRUTH BE TOLD: There will be tons of limited edition Draplin-designed merchandise available including a brand new screenprinted poster produced by Burlesque of North America and Permanent as well as custom-made CO exhibition Field Notes, A special CO/DRAPLIN “Autumnal Brew” made from our friends at Northern Brewer and served at the opening, and a personal “guided tour” of the exhibit narrated by Aaron.

I was very upset that I could not make it to MPLS from Duluth! Hope you had a good time in Minnesota though!

Sweet. Man, orange and black will never get old as long as DDC is at the helm. And white. You can’t forget about the white.
