Keeping That Big Trap Shut

YOU KNOW I LOVE TO TALK: But regarding those logos yesterday,
I gotta keep my big trap shut. As soon as I can, when everything is ready and the light goes green, I’ll pass on everything you need to know about it all.

Many, many thanks to the friends, colleagues and nice strangers who left a comment or sent in an email. And to the sapsuckers who came down on me, well, I’m proud as hell to serve my country, and I’ll leave it at that.

SPEAKING OF MATTER REGARDING POLITICS, MATTERS OF GRAPHIC DESIGN: One of my favorite sites, “4president.org.” All the presidential campaign logos all the way back to when things were really good in 1960. Our recommendation is to check out everything up until 1980. There you go.

Here’s another political logo I had a “little something” to do with. Thanks again to Cam for that one. Printed on hundreds of thousands of water bottles and what not. (This link was sent in by Ryan Carrol, with one hand on the mouse, and the other over his heart.)

AND NOW, A LITTLE ABOUT OUR FEATURE IMAGE ABOVE: That’s the old Kah-Nee-Ta logo from the resort out by Warm Springs, Ore. I’ve passed up that logo a million times, and always had a soft spot for it. On the “Bend to Portland” run up Highway 97 over to Highway 26.

Here’s the contemporary logo. So it goes.

SOMETHING I’D LIKE TO GET MY HANDS ON: The CMYK pen. Just a 3D rendering for now, but cool nevertheless. Lots of smart people out there. Hope this idea sees the light of day.

THIS SATURDAY, RIGHT HERE IN PORTLAND: Cut and Paste, people! I’m one of the judges, so, think of me like a big Ump behind home plate, only without those weird, polyester black pants. Wait, yeah, with pants. Pretty excited to see how it all goes down. See you there.

WHAT’S ON THE PLAYER TODAY: The Paper Hats, featuring the incredible William Tyler, who handled the “lead guitar shift” for Lambchop last night here in Portland. Such finesse, and hell, at like 28 or something? Nashville was always mysterious to me. Now even more so.

DO YOU REALIZE?: The Lips’ epic existential shanty, “Do You Realize” is now officially the “State Song of the great state of Oklahoma.” Kick fuckin’ ass. It’s not even about the songs anymore for me. It’s about being creative and having determination and seeing where that gets you. Congrats, fellas, congrats. I’m a fan for life, and well into the nebulous hereafter.

THIS LINK NEVER GETS OLD: And Brad Simon reminds me of just that, this morning, with an assemblage we’ll take some liberty and title, “Best Pile of Old Bank Logos Going.” Much to be learned in this one. Wonder. Amazement Cancelled checks. Cancelled cheques. Hours of enjoyment.
