For Gramma Leo

I think about my Gramma Leo on St. Patrick’s Day. Much better than swilling green beer with halfwit revelers who are about as Irish as the Pad Thai we had for lunch an hour ago.

Here’s a shot of her with her youngest, Kevin, at his wedding in 1982. And another shot, this time, at Unka MIke’s first wedding, with Unca Pat, Dad, Gramma Leo and me when I was 10. We were all pretty schnockered at that point.

So today is for her, and memories of Budweisers, incredible burgers and the most-amazing laugh that side of Bogey Lake.

JUST IN FROM LAKE ANN, MICHIGAN: Here’s what dad had to say regarding yesterday’s post: “I’m not a hoarder. Hoarders put shit in boxes and don’t know what the fuck they got. Me, I know exactly what the fuck I have. And it’s all treasures. And I display it all, too. I wish you were never born.”

By the way, the link behind his hot air is “Public” now, so, you know, get dirty with my old man.

ALL THE WAY FROM SWITZERLAND, WHERE THEY’VE GOT THEIR ACT VERY TOGETHER: I haven’t heard a goddamn thing from Larry in a long time, and hell, that’s how I like it. Turns out he’s been “getting real Alpine” and stuff in far away, distant lands. Here’s a quick one he sent in, and, another reason why Switzerland is “it”: A Swiss train station, and those incredible clocks.

I was in Switzerland for two nights a couple years back. In Winterthur, just outside of a thriving Zurich. Beautiful coins, hot fondue and loads and loads of Helvetica, all over the place. Incredible.

KING OF THE BREEDS: Somewhere in this great nation a guy by the name of Aaron Grable was out junkin’ at a couple estate sales, and came across this extra long dachshund ceramic deal. And man, that’s a pretty wicked thumb, too! Wow. Good eye, Grable!

FREEHAND, EVEN: The Hand Lettering of Ray Frenden, which was spotted high atop Coudal Partner’s “Daily Signals” list. Some wicked shit in there. Seriously.

ONE OF MY FAVORITES IN MINNEAPOLIS: Wink gets interviewed in One Magazine.

Happy St. Patty’s Day! EVERYone is Irish for a day, unfortunately.

Thanks for the memory of my hot-headed, stubborn Irish mother! She loved all of her grandchildren and would be so proud of you; as for you putting up her pictures on your site, she would say, “He’s a little shit”.

We try to do her proud each St. Patrick’s Day with a little beer in her honor; however, I won’t drink that Budweiser stuff….too much REAL beer out there.

Well some of us just have the luck to have been born that day, never been Irish, but a great day none the less for a birthday.
