Heading Up To Spokane

Heading up to Spokane tonight. For multiple reasons:

01. To go junkin’ and rescue old paper, records and trash from the clutches of apathy.

02. To go exploring lands unknown. Places like, “Walla Walla.” Great name.

03. To escape the city.

I’ve only driven through Spokane. Lookin’ forward to scouring the town. Dale’s been making a list of hotspots. Jess is coming to document it all, and prob’ly add couple of kickass, old pocketknives to his collection. Pretty excited to get the hell out of town for a couple nights. Up to a land of mystery. To us, at least.

We are leaving tonight at 7pm prompt. Or, “…just after Dale gets out of work.”

DALE, PUT THIS ONE ON THE LIST: A visit to John Conley is in order, if we could be so lucky.

ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE LOGOS: That Epcot logo. 1984, people. They had a ride that talked about “growing oranges in the future” and you could smell oranges! I was blown away by that part. The whole family toured down to Florida that summer and took in Disney World, Epcot and Busch Gardens. Memories.

I remember my om telling my dad, just as we were pulling out of the driveway: “Take it easy, Jim…” And not 20 miles away, we were on the side of the road and the old man was getting a ticket written up for speeding.

A ticket, when “his time in court” finally came up, he fought and beat. Take that, small town fuzz!

CATCH THAT TIGER BY THE TAIL: The Shaw Equipment Company label.

REQUIRED VIEWING, SOLDIERS: “C” vs. “K” and, well, Tim Lahan of Philadelphia, Penn. has this to say, “I’m gonna have to say the K Ration was the better bargain.” We think he’s one to something: The K Ration.

I love it! I grew up in dirty Spokangeles, and went to college in WW. My two hometowns. Good people there.
If you’re in Walla Walla for breakfast, you’ve got to go to Tommy’s diner. Go early and eat with the roughneck farmers. Real characters.
Spokane has some great spots too, lots of outlying farms with old garages and barns to dig through. Bound to be some treasures.

White Elephant is always a must. Be sure to hit Hillyard, Bottom of Monroe Street hill, and when there in December I saw a new shop on Ruby at the bottom of the hill, but didn’t get a chance to check it out.
