HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD: Today is my dad’s 66th birthday!

The last couple months have been tough for the guy, with the leg thing and all. He’s bouncing back, healing up, venturing into town to see movies and doing his route around Northern Michigan supplying tool shops with tooling. When asked how he was feeling on his big day, he had this to say: “I feel old.”

“That’s all you got to say?” I ask.

“That’s it. I feel old. But I am still alive. I talked to Uncle Bob today and he said, ‘You are just a kid, Jimmy.’”

Uncle Bob is 72. Uncle Tom is 70. Dad is 66. The baby of the family. “They saved the best for last!,” is all he had to say regarding those numbers.

“You know Gramma Josie used to dress me up in dresses. Who knows.” I don’t know where the old man was going with that one. Hard to say.

That’s the dad I know. Here’s to the next 66, you beast!

ORANGE, AND THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING: Field Notes takes on some serious color, just when winter wraps it’s white, cold fingers around the throat of America. Going fast!

GREAT MATCHBOOKS HERE: Ben’s collection of Matchbooks on Flickr. Go through each and every one of them. Way recommended.

And here’s the best one of the lot. So good.

For his 66th - you should repeat the Route 66 tour…this time in the opposite direction!
