For Kris

I still think about my friend Kris Okins. All the time, really.

She passed away three years ago today ago due to a bicycle accident downtown here in Portland.

She was a spirited little nugget, if I ever met one. Raised in Windom, Minn. by Mary and Jim, then blossoming her creative side at Arts High School in Minneapolis, then earning a degree in design from the Minneapolis College of Art + Design, then a little life in Portland, zipping around town on her bike.

I still think about Kris, and miss her random emails from those last couple years.

This whole day is for Kris.

PLEASE: And to everyone on their bikes and in their cars: Watch out for each other and be careful. Thanks.

A real sad day. Glad you’re keeping Kris in people’s thoughts. It’s a tough pill to swallow, when this stuff happens to “real” people and not just some character you read about in a news story. It’s still pretty hard to believe…

Sucks to hear of another person’s death on a bicycle. You’re great friend to keep her in mind.
