Even though we don’t acknowledge this day here, the main opposition party has a prominent quote from the late Doctor on its homepage. www.singaporedemocrat.org

“Cowardice asks the question, “Is it safe?â€
Expediency asks the question, “Is it politic?â€
Vanity asks the question,
“Is it popular?â€
But, conscience asks the question, “Is it right?â€
And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because it is right.
- Martin Luther King Jr.

As I look back now, I realize how brave this man was. He was smart enough to know the only way to achieve change was the non-violent way. Talking his people into following this philosophy must have been difficult, because I couldn’t have stood there and allowed people to spit on me and curse at me. He was successful in making all those bigots down south look absolutely hateful and foolish. Amazing.
