Anniversary Revelry

Happy April Fool’s Day to all the jackasses out there.

Big news: Today is my “One Year Anniversary” with the CINCO DESIGN OFFICE. Gigantic news. One whole year down, with hopes of squeezing a couple more out of the joint.

I’ve honed the colorful dynamics of client relations, improved my photo-tuning process, developed intense catalogs, walked ads through start to finish, designed a watch that made it to production (!) and most importantly, my pong game has wickedly improved. The “community” atmosphere is the best part. We are a team. We bounce ideas off each other and push the process in good directions. Autonomy is cool and all, but man, having multiple voices throwing their two pennies in is so much better. Many eyes is better than two.

Many thanks to my colleagues who keep me going. Namely: Goo, Dean, Wakamoto, Ben, Chris. We roll hard.

Good folks, good projects, good surroundings, good pong and good times.

To the “Top Brass”: Thank you for the opportunity. Much appreciated.

I look back on my two-year stint in California and cringe. What a hellhole. Good people down there made it memorable (Chief, Rose, Bridges, Baker, Michaylira, Tevis, Jared) but man, no thanks on livin’ there. My overall “quality of life” factor went through the roof! Rain. Clouds. Cold nights. Moss. Grass. Empty freeways.

My year up here has been so much better.

Thanks to my colleague periphery too: Rod, Jay, Fred, Nemo, Faz, Robin and the guy who works at the Plaid Pantry on 22nd & Hawthorne.

It gets better: Melissa will be back in a little over three weeks. Good stuff all around.

TO A COOL NEPHEW!: Congrats on your 1 year there and your overall success! You have much to be proud of! I remember the day you were born….you were the coolest kid in this family. Somewhere, i have this picture of you with a frog in a pepsi bottle. I don’t know how you got that fuckin thing in there, but you did! (You probably remember that too….) Actually, I have lots of cool pictures of you Aaron! (They are treasures!) I’m glad Melissa is on her way back to you, and I wish you two a great life together! She rocks!

Keep up the good work!

Congrats. Where can I see a picture of this watch that you designed? Do you wear one? Remember to buy the Wilco DVD…

What a coincidence. My watch broke today and I need a new one. Any chance of getting me a discount? I saw your mockup last Christmas and it indeed one sweet-looking watch. I’d be proud to wear it.

Yeah, Aaron- do you get free stuff? Like pro riders do? Does the UPS man come once a week with boxes of Gravis shoes and Nixon Watches and Burton gear?

While everyone else is trying to milk you for goods - where’s my shit at? I’m dyin’ here … You still got my address?

Hi Champ, I’d like to see some more “hot links” on yr site, especially of the work you’ve been doing. All this talk of watches and high design is great, but it doesn’t do me any good if I have no idea what we’re talking about (or begging for). How’s about some more samples of the fruits of yer labor? At least share some of the thousands of digital photos you’ve been snapping… Images are good, makes even us illiterates happy.

And hey, what are the chances that Cooley will “jump ship” and leave a comment on my site? Your whole family is also welcome any time…they could compensate for my technologically-challenged relatives. Hi Uncle Terry, Mama, Sarah, etc! Good, solid kinfolk who write good posts…can’t ask for better than that.

About posting recent works: The new CINCO site is in the works, so hang tight. Lots of new work from the office will be updated. I can’t really showcase my contributions on here, as it needs to come straight from the horse’s mouth.

Productivity: I’ll wrangle some of my latest DDC items for perusal too, so you can see what has been keeping me busy and up late.

About free shit, well…word to the wise: “You can wish in one hand and shit in the other, and see which one fills up first.”

How about some free advice? We got lots of that to give out.

I need some advice baaaaad, Aaron.

“You ask me about what is called imperialism. Well, I have formed views about that question … I left these shores, at Vancouver, a red-hot imperialist. I wanted the American eagle to go screaming into the Pacific. It seemed tiresome and tame for it to content itself with the Rockies. Why not spread its wings over the Philippines, I asked myself? And I thought it would be a real good thing to do.

I said to myself, here are a people who have suffered for three centuries. We can make them as free as ourselves, give them a government and country of their own, put a miniature of the American constitution afloat in the Pacific, start a brand new republic to take its place among the free nations of the world. It seemed to me a great task to which we had addressed ourselves.

But I have thought some more, since then, and I have read carefully the treaty of Paris, and I have seen that we do not intend to free, but to subjugate the people of the Philippines. We have gone there to conquer, not to redeem.

(We have also pledged the power of this country to maintain and protect the abominable system established in the Philippines by the Friars.)

It should, it seems to me, be our pleasure and duty to make those people free, and let them deal with their own domestic questions in their own way. And so I am an anti-imperialist. I am opposed to having the eagle put its talons on any other land”

Kurt - don’t pierce it. You’ll regret it later.

I’m still waiting for my advice, Aaron. You said you have lots to give. Inside, I am a lonely, lonely boy.

Rock and roll, dawg.

Drap, on my site you said “you’ll be back,” about comments-area ship-jumpers… Just wanted you to know that we never left. In fact, I’m here probably a dozen times a day, as part of a sick ritual called “Toolbar Favorites Quick Check Short-List”. Thanks for keepin’ the fires burnin’ under our asses. Kurt needs some advice.

PJ, my brother in blood and spirit,

Once the wheat is separated form the chaff, I know who’ll always be there for me.

This goes without saying.

Updates soon.
