We made it home today. After six days of bone-dry roads, some rain, one snowstorm and thousands of records flipped through. Glad to be at rest, catching up on everything.

Long roadtrips are just kinda weird. I forgot just how much land is crossed. Just how many lives are out there. It’s a magical thing. All that space. All that nation. Love it.

And, I take for granted how lucky I’ve been out there, over the years.

I’d be a liar if I didn’t admit that before each and every road trip of this magnitude I don’t have a scary couple moments that cloud my thinker saying, “This could be the one where shit goes bad.” or “Something gonna give this time.” I drive past accidents, wrecks and fender benders all the time, and just try to keep a clear head and clear set of limits for the day. Been really lucky.

Honestly, it’s not the road that would kill me. It’s my iPhone. That goddamn thing. “iSwerve” is more like it. It’s just to tempting to check email or look up some landmark or whatever. Dangerous as hell. Leigh gets on my case pretty hard about it, and well, I’d say that’s a good thing.

Glad to be back. Glad to be with Gary again, that little rascal.

I was just thinking the same thing today. So lucky to have only been in only one “accident” while driving. (We touched bumpers in a traffic jam on Christmas Eve and I ended up going out on a date with her.) Number 2 almost came today when a tractor trailer drifted out of its lane as I passed it. He wasn’t changing lanes, just not paying attention, and I was almost crushed between the truck and a guardrail.

I thought since you enjoyed the photos of Kansas City’s West Bottoms, you might enjoy these too:

Good to see you made it back home safe. Hand off the iDistractor to the co-pilot next time.
