“Cleveland Mission, Part I”

So I went to Cleveland, to see those Lips.

On the way down, I did a little junkin’…

082. “Stamp machine, Clare, Mich.”
083. “Universal Breadmaker, Clare, Mich.”

I spent the night outside of Akron, only because of the Black Keys. No other reason, really.

084. “Akron, Ohio.”
085. “Goodrich factory.”
086. “Big smokestacks.”
087. “the Akron Art Musuem. Gotta see this one sometime.”
088. “A big church downtown.”

And back up to Cleveland, early that morning. Nate and Pete were on their way down to meet me, and I still had a couple hours. I threw the towel in and went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Basically, everything I’ve ever heard about the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame has been pretty negative, and cynical, and derogatory. Tough customers. I had to give it a shot. I mean, no big whup.

Notable items that got me thinking:

01. Michael Jackson glove, from, well, his “Glove period.”
02. U2 “Pop” tour suits. Complete garbage.
03. Relics from the San Francisco scene,
04. Neil Young’s jacket.
05. Jefferson Airplane amp rig.
06. Hendrix’s childhood drawings, and, original Purple Haze lyrics
07. Mick Jagger outfits.

089. “The Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame.”
090. “The fretboard of Johnny Cash.”
091. “John Lennon’s Sgt. Pepper jacket.”
092. “The bass guitar from the London Calling cover shot.”

Then I got lost in some rough neighborhoods on Cleveland’s East side and found amazing industrial ruins…

093. “All stamping products.”
094. “Only employees.”
095. “Rules to follow in this alley.”
096. “The East Ohio Gas Company.”
097. “Gus’ Tire Service.”

Part Two of this deal, tomorrow…
