WOOSHING WAVE: On November 20th, 2019 we set up a pop-up at Arbor Collective in Venice, California. The cool beach air was flowing through my locks in and around my bald spot. I had multiple grains of sand in the crack. Might've even been wearing some flea-bit sandals? Whatever the deal, the place was PACKED for the event, and those beach rats RAVAGED our proud offering at our DDC merch table. Luckily, we had a stack of our "DDC x Arbor Collective Super Wave" posters to fend them off. They put a serious dent in our stash that night, and a good time was had by all. The biggest thank you to Arbor's Bob, Nate, Eric and all the super helpful shop kids! Usually, we have to unload and load the van. Everyone chipped in that night, and I'm still beaming with appreciation. THANK YOU for such a cool night in such a quintessential beach town. Long live Venice!

Couple weeks later, I'm outside a print shop in an industrial part of Portland, and couldn't help but notice how each sign on that big fence surrounding the joint was TRASHED with graffiti and krinkles (Someone backed into a sign six feet up in the air?) and whatever else. Couldn't even read the things, but there they were...INDESTRUCTIBLE. And that's what we made here. Signs to warn folks about messing your property, a stern request to keep from lighting up or welcoming every kind of person into a place. Oh man, are these AWESOME. And not like, 13/16 (.8125) awesome....like 100/100 (1.0) awesome.

It's a couple times a day where I have to whip open up my little calculator app to get a decimal equivalent. Be it for a patch 3/8 (.375) of the day, or a decal 7/16" (.4375") away from the edge. Or even a tolerance on a poster trap at 3/32 (.09375") where the colors overlap. And it's like 29/32 (.90625) embarrassing. I was raised by a dad who gave these to his machine shop customers. Handheld versions 11/64 (.171875) of the time, and wall versions 49/64 (.765625) of the time. And those bad-asses lived by them. I have a couple of vintage ones in the DDC Archives, but just know if I started using them, I'd beat the hell out of them like 17/32 (.53125) of the time and they go missing or whatever.

Fed up, I made my own. And friends, THESE ARE THE REAL DEAL. These charts proudly feature our mighty "DDC Hardware" typeface from top to bottom.

ONE OUR ABSOLUTE FAVORITE THINGS IN THE WORLD: ...is a simple, unassuming aluminum nameplate. Completely free of sweaty pretension, these industrial gems were simply meant to work, and withstand the wear-n-tear whatever drill press, electrical box, farm implement or sketchy generator it was tacked to was certainly going to experience. And yet, the typography on these forgotten gems is HANDS DOWN some of the most beautiful, balanced, legible examples of how to pack a lot of info into a small space. I have a sizeable collection of the things. Some procured legally, and some...shall we say...simply out, "procured by any means necessary." HERE'S HOW THIS ONE WENT DOWN: Way back in 2015, one Will Hodges representing Tactile Turn down in Dallas hit me up with this savory nugget, "My name is Will Hodges and I make sweet machined pens." And I don't have any record of hitting him back? Either it got lost in the mix, or buried, or? Hard to say. Anyhoo, days turned into weeks into months into years and EVERYTHINGELSENESS took over.

Fast forward to April of 2023 and he hits me up again...it rings an odd bell and we get on the phone an hour later. We jawed a bit and got down to business: "How orange can you make it for me, Will?" Within a week I had a couple beautiful samples to try out! And I've been using that first sample for SIX MONTHS... daily daily daily. In and out of my possibles bag. Rattling around on my desk. One flick of that bolt and I'm into the ink stratosphere!

The machined craftsmanship is stunning. Quite frankly, you'll have this pen THE REST OF YER LIFE. Tough as hell, yet incredibly smooth to write with. I love a simple DDC Clic Pen and all, but there's something about these pens that elevates my game on paper. And that's pretty dang cool.

GET IN THE VAN: These three decals were made for the Adobe MAX conference a couple months ago in Los Angeles. We drove down Interstate 5 southbound from Portland down to Los Angeles. That's the scene you see in the third sticker. 1,000 miles in two days. We were able to drive the van onto the floor as part of our 20' x 20' booth. It was awesome. (Scroll down to see it on the big trade show room floor.) Folks were taking photos with the GAS PIG, jumping into the cockpit and mean mugging in front of the tires. So cool. After loading up that final day, Leigh and I drove home. And that's the scene you see in the third sticker.

We've been making our classic DDC Action Caps for going on twenty years. Same cut, same fabric, same patch and that same fit we love so much. Earlier this summer, my buddy Sean McMahon brought a hat sample over and said, "Give this one a try. Lightweight, nylon with a great fit," he said. And he was right. A new model on the headwear scene, I had to get an order going. We developed eight rubber patches and picked eight colors. They turned out incredible, and offer a lighter weight and mellower fit.
